Battle of the Books is Returning this Year!!
If you have a child in grades 3-8 this program is for you! Students are challenged to read and become familiar with a selection of 10-15 books and they will compete in a quiz show setting similar to Family Feud. Titles are assigned to each grade level first and then students are encouraged to start reading others. Teams and book lists will be sent out in the next few weeks. Our school library will have at least one book from the required list but we do encourage parents to utilize our public libraries.
Our competition through The Catholic Diocese is tentatively scheduled for March 2024. Please be aware that participation in Battle of the Books will require a commitment of time to reading the books on the list and meeting for practice. Meetings will be held on designated Tuesday mornings from 8:00-8:30am and Monday afternoons from 3:00- 3:30pm in January, February, and March. Please discuss this commitment with your child before signing up.
Our first meeting will be Tuesday, November 7 at 8 AM in the Cafeteria. This meeting is mandatory.
What is so great about Battle of the Books? Everything! You just can’t help but learn a lot from reading and studying books, right? Battle of the Books provides a unique opportunity for young readers to gain fluency in reading and in recall of details; improve literary analysis skills; discover favorite authors and genres; learn about a wide span of cultures; share ideas and thoughts; and develop accountability and commitment to a team.
**The deadline to sign up is Friday, October 27. Please contact Nicole Hingley for additional questions at [email protected].
