We are excited to bring back the Partners in Education (PIE) program for the 2019-2020 school year! One of our very own 8th graders designed this program two years ago. With the help and support of many of her middle school peers, the program has been wildly successful. For those unfamiliar with the program, below are the details.
What is PIE?
PIE is a peer-led tutoring program available to students in grades 1 through 5. Peer tutoring services will be offered immediately after school and will include homework and/or project assistance or review of subjects/materials that students may need reinforced.
When does PIE begin?
During the 2019-2020 school year, we will offer three sessions:
Session 1: September 30, 2019-November 4, 2019
Session 2: January 13, 2020-February 20, 2020
Session 3: March 2, 2020-April 8, 2020
Who can participate?
Students in Grades 1 through 5 can receive tutoring.
Who are the tutors?
Middle school students in Grades 6 through 8 will provide tutoring.
Where will tutoring take place?
Students will be tutored in one of the 3rd or 4th grade classrooms.
When will my child receive tutoring services?
Students will sign up to stay after school either Mondays & Wednesdays, or Tuesdays & Thursdays. Students in 1st and 2nd grade will work until 3:30pm. Students in 3rd through 5th grade will work until 4pm.
How does my child sign up?
Students in Grades 1 through 5 are recommended for tutoring services by their teacher.
Interested in being a tutor?
Students in Grades 6 through 8 can either be recommended by their teachers or can volunteer themselves to serve as a tutor. Tutors must have a demonstrated mastery of the subject matter with which they will be assisting other students. Tutors can choose to earn merits or volunteer hours for their service.
What’s next?
Permission slips for middle school peer tutors will be available in homerooms and will be emailed on September 11, 2019. Permission slips for 1st through 5th grade students will go home in the Red & White folders on September 18, 2019. Please note that recommendations are suggestive only and no one is required to participate.
