Each year, SEES faculty, staff and administration, in cooperation with SEES parents, work very hard to offer unique, meaningful opportunities to educate our children in the classroom and beyond. We feel it is an important aspect of our growth, not only as a faith-based community, but also as citizens, to look beyond the walls of our school and our church to see how we can expand the minds of our students. This year was no different, and we were excited to bring to our students an awesome opportunity to give back to our community and to learn a very important aspect of being contributing citizens in our country.
Many of you may have heard of an organization called WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA. Each December, on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to “Remember, Honor, and Teach” is carried out by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies at more than 1,600 Veteran’s cemeteries here in the USA, at sea, and abroad. One of these locations is right here in our area at the Amelia Courthouse Veteran’s Cemetery (“VAVCAM”). The wreaths for these ceremonies are all sponsored by local citizens from the surrounding community.
This year, SEES is proud to have partnered with the Wreaths Across America initiative in support of VAVCAM. On December 16, 2020 a Wreath Laying Ceremony was held at VAVCAM to remember and honor our veterans through the laying of REMEMBRANCE wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each and every veteran aloud.
Thanks to our community’s generosity, VAVCAM was able to meet and exceed its Wreaths Across America goal. Many of our SEES families and students were on hand to help place the 4,831 sponsored wreaths on the graves, and our own Ms. Bonomo sang the “National Anthem” as part of the opening ceremonies!
